ACDSystems back with ACDSeePRO

ACDSystems has just released a new version of their great ACDSee photo manager, ACDSee Pro priced at $129,99. What exactly are the $80 worth of new features, I’m not certain (the feature list looks pretty general to me). Also, does this mean there will be a Pro and Standard version from now on?
As a long time ACDSee user, the new color scheme from the screenshots looks disappointing. I hope they have skin supports, as my version 7 only has options for dark, medium, and light. I would like to retain my current soft blue.

ACD has been quite for the past several months and it’s good to see it back up and running.

Put Color into Black & White Photos and Videos

I came across an amazing piece of software today via Digg called Recolor, a tool that, with a little work, turns black & white photos into realistic color. Take a look at the examples provided… simply brilliant.
I ran the becahball tutorial included and it worked like a charm. More complicated photos require more work, but with the results, it is totally worth it.
I believe that this is the easiest method to do this, faster than photoshop and similiar processes.

This is based on a process discussed here which can also be applied to video (see bottom of page). Recolor doesn’t appear to support video at the moment.
LegendFilms and Off Color Films are sites that specializes in restoring color into old movies.

The author asks to you register it to encourage him to keep working on it, and he hopes to release a shareware version some time in the future.

Here is the link
for direct download.

Are you glued to Flickr’s Interestingness page? Keep pressing the reload button? Wish there was an RSS for that page?

Well, there is. Took a bit of finding, but someone ran it through Feedburner to bring you the best of Flickr.
Here is the feed:

I’m afraid that I can’t remember to whom the credit goes to or where I found it (it was some time ago).

Anyways, its a great feed to add to KlipFolio 3 Beta, as it has image support. (Sure, any reader will do, I just thought I’d mention Klipfolio tho.)

Stock up on free-to-use Photos with YotoPhoto

If you do any visual art and would rather not part with any money, you know how hard it can be to lay hands on a free photo to use for a background, element, etc.
Sure, you can use Google and hope the author won’t notice something very familiar about that background in your next movie or advert.
You can try looking on Flickr, but its hard to find photos with the right Creative Commons licence.
Don’t you wish there was a great way to find hundreds of results with one simple click?
Enter YotoPhoto (beta), a new search engine (launched in May) that boasts an index of over 100 000 Creative Commons, Public Domain, GNU FDL, and various other free images. Advanced search lets you choose which words to exclude, places to search, and image sizes in pixels (px).

YotoPhoto Search Engine

Thought they are free, remember that they are so under certain conditions, so make sure you read the licences carefully.

They have a registration option which currently gives you acccess to their forums and mailing list. They promise more options to available to members in the near future.

Test searches revealed good results. I’ll certainly be using this the next time I require a free image.

And last but not least, don’t forget the YotoPhoto Firefox extension.
