Gloodle is a neat little FREE app with little purpose than to create fun doodles as in the screenshot. There is no direct link, so you will have to Wondertouch, creator of ParticleIllusion, and navigate to Gloodle via the right hand menu (last link), or find it on the bottom right of the homepage.
You have to download choices, one with installer, and one that requires no installation which is great.

Just select some shapes and draw like crazy. Goodle will mirror your image and create some amazing patterns.

One really great feature (which I have not been able to test), is adding shading to a drawing (or portion of a drawing) to simulate depth, or use Chromadepth coloring (if you have the right 3D glasses!).

Here’s what the site says:

Gloodle is “doodle with globs” — drawing using 3D shapes to create 2D images with a lot of richness, complexity, and depth.

I guess it’s similar (but on a much, much smaller scale) to ZBrush, but my intent was never to make a tool, just something fun to play around with.

I wrote Gloodle in 1998, just before starting work on particleIllusion. It was intended to be a simple programming exercise and a way for me to gain a little more experience programming for Windows. Also, it was sort of an “audition” for me — a way to prove myself to Mike Halvorson at Impulse.

Gloodle is a simple app that shows some hint of the immediate feedback that makes particleIllusion so fun and useable: in Gloodle you just draw on the window and cool things happen. Not much thinking required. There are plenty of controls to experiment with, and (like particleIllusion) a lot of power hidden under simple controls.

If you thought that was fun, check out ShowIEL, a particle viewer that can be used to create particle images (will review later). You’ll find it on the front page allongside Gloodle.

Put Color into Black & White Photos and Videos

I came across an amazing piece of software today via Digg called Recolor, a tool that, with a little work, turns black & white photos into realistic color. Take a look at the examples provided… simply brilliant.
I ran the becahball tutorial included and it worked like a charm. More complicated photos require more work, but with the results, it is totally worth it.
I believe that this is the easiest method to do this, faster than photoshop and similiar processes.

This is based on a process discussed here which can also be applied to video (see bottom of page). Recolor doesn’t appear to support video at the moment.
LegendFilms and Off Color Films are sites that specializes in restoring color into old movies.

The author asks to you register it to encourage him to keep working on it, and he hopes to release a shareware version some time in the future.

Here is the link
