Just when you think you’ve seen them all, another video sharing website comes bobbing along.
Here’s a quick summary on how the competition stands (in depth of deserving individual sites will follow soon). All have a free service which includes enough features to satisfy:
-Not listed in any order-
Sharkle is a full featured site rivalling the big dogs, YouTube and Vidilife, offering just as good features, but topping it off with great Flsah quality. It’s conversion is fast too. It only offers 1Gig of free space, but that is plenty enough. *This one gets my award for the best video sharing site.*
DailyMotion is another great candidate offering 3 different ways of uploading your video (unlimited of under 110MB) in addition to the normal “upload from harddrive”:
- Upload directly from webcam
- Upload from Mobile Phone
- Upload by email
Most of the “help” part of the site remains untranslated (French?) but you don’t really need help. This is the only site that transcodes to Quicktime… something I’ve been looking for for a long time. At the moment, however, it does not appear to stream.
YouTube offers the most features at the moment and unlimited file upload as long as they are under 100mb. Only downside is when video is converted to Flash, its not always the prettiest thing. It’s being updated continuously. Overlooking it’s low quality, it is by far the best community video site.
JussPress is tailored to those sharing video off their photo cameras, webcams, and phone cams. You are open to unlimited uploads but the videos must be under 2 minutes or they’ll get cut off.
eVideoShare doesn’t offer a proffesional design… but it has all the features one comes to expect from a video sharing site.
ClipShack At the moment, signing up for it’s beta gives you a Free 50MB of video storage (so far there is only a free version. Paid services should be added soon). Compared to other sites, that’s nothing.
Vidilife allows you to upload videos up to a whooping 2Gigs! Streaming video is in WMV which doesn’t give you the best quality.
ZippyVideos like Vivilife offers streaming video without converting it to Flash. They convert to WMV which isn’t the best quality either. And their limit is unlimited files of up to 20MB. For simple sharing, ZippyVideos meets expectations.
Boltfolio is not limited to video, supporting images, audio, and blogs as well. A multimedia sharing community portal created by Bolt targeted mainly at young people. This is the first video site I have come across that actually feels like Flickr. It features the same easy system of tagging, commenting, and editing content info. It’s even got a monthly upload limit (100MB).
–Additional (not had time to review)–
Pooxi- French site.
CastPost
vSocial
Blip.tv < - Geared for vloggers really
Google Video (Might as well add it, even tho it doesn’t offer quite the same feel.
Lulop2(interesting, open source project to create your own Video Sharing website.)
vMix

www.varsityTV.com
PixParty - Video & Pics.
FreeVideoBlog - Not a big community or as flexible as YouTube and Sharkle but allows you to embed videos into your site (not sure what the limit
is) and the flash quality looks pretty good (although I’ve seen some
WMV files there too.
StreetFire - Identical interface (except for color scheme) to the one above, so I guess has the same features.
Other Video Sites that don’t quite fit my category:
Revver - A site that hopes to bring cash in to content providers by inserting ads at the end of the clips.
Vobbo - actually a social site with video capablities.
P2P styled Video Sharing:
Grouper - The best known P2P sharing app. Downside is the slow loading, and the new interface isn’t quite friendly.
Project Neon - Probably the fastest app. Really simple and straightforward.
Pixpo
Sites to keep watch on:
Brightcove - Plans to revolutionize web video.
For those looking for any sites supporting video, not restricted to Flickr like services, should check out this list at Artificial Eyes.
Phew… that’s got to be the most complete list in existence (as of this moment).
If I missed any (as if), be sure to let me know…
(Stay tuned for more video related websites…)
